MondayMotivation: Meet Mmanaka Kelobonye – Actuarial Specialist

Mmnaka - Actuarial Specialist

Ms Mmanaka

I interviewed Ms Mmanaka Kelobonye, a sassy travelista and actuarial specialist. Here is what she had to say about her travel and career:

1) What is your current area of work?

I am an actuarial specialist for a life insurance company

2) How long have you been in this field?

I have been in this field since 2012

3) What do you enjoy most about your job?

This is a difficult question….There is a lot, it’s difficult to point out one particular thing. I enjoy the insights it provides on how too manage business. Since my role is within product development, this also gives me the opportunity to be creative to some degree.

4) What are the requirements for someone who wants to be in this field ( age, education, special skills etc.) ?

A mathematical undergraduate degree, preferably in Actuarial Science. Then write exams with one of the actuarial institutions to qualify as an actuary. Actuarial Society of South Africa is one of them, as well as the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the United Kingdom (UK).

5) How many countries have you traveled to?

I have travelled to Zambia, Lesotho, Botswana, Burundi, Kenya, Dubai Emirates, Indonesia (Bali), Italy (Rome), Spain (Madrid), United States of America (USA), Thailand, Singapore and Cuba. That makes it thirteen (13).

6) Where is your next travel destination?

I would like to try Moroco, but it’s likely to be China or Paris with family.
