#Women’sDay – 9 August

Happy Women’s Day South Africa

Every year on the 9th of August we celebrate Women’s Day as a commemoration of a march taken by more than 20 000 South African women of all races on 9 August 1956 to the Union Buildings in protest against the proposed amendments to the Urban Areas Act of 1950, commonly referred to as the “pass laws”. This law was in place to maintain the segregation of races in South Africa under the apartheid regime.

Thanks to these women, today we are free to be and become better women in society.

My Women’s Day Contribution

I woke up this morning surprised to see myself named as one of 9 Women Makers  in 2018  by Destiny Connect !

This is such an honour and a big reconnection for me and by young Brand ShweShwekini Active Wear! To think that about 60 years ago, women of colour were not able to access these opportunities only makes even eager to perform at my best and unlock these opportunities for myself and other generations to come.

Thank you Destiny Magazine, for celebrating women in every issue! I hope you’ve had a lovely day ladies.

Until next time xx
