Sotho Girl Diaries Events
I have been invited by the Nordic Design Aid, Crafting Hope and Innovation Norway to be a guest speaker at their First Thursday fund raiser on 1 November 2018 and I am so excited. The event will take place at 142 Long Street from 17h00 Thursday evening.
WHAT IS THE EVENT ABOUT?
The event’s focus is to inspire women and young girls to follow their dreams, raise funds for Crafting Hope’s “Girl Game Changer” programme and to create a platform to network with like-minded in the design, arts & culture area.
WHAT TO EXPECT
There will be items on sale such as Danish designer clothes at the pop-up shop at huge discounted prices. The clothes on sale are donated from Danish designers including Storm & Marie, Ganni, Eva & Claudi, Sophia Lee, Moshi Moshi Mind, MARMAR Copenhagen, Stig P and Nümph. The funds will go towards our “Girl Game Changer” programme.
Come and listen to inspirational talks, network with industry players and meet new people over a glass of wine. We have partnered with Nordic and South African companies and Innovation Norway (Royal Norwegian Embassy, Commercial Section) to create a collaborative networking event with a strong focus on creativity, design, arts & culture to emphasise the synergies between South Africa and Scandinavia. We want to explore ways of exchanging knowledge, ideas, projects and innovation through collaboration and co-creation.
SPEAKERS: Crafting Hope, H.E.R, Mapitso Thaisi from ShweShwekini and The Clothing Bank.
MEET & NETWORK: Africa!Ignite, Crafting Hope, H.E.R, Gerika Langenhoven & Elisabeth Van der Merwe, H18 Foundation, Isabella Chydenius, Kitty van Jangles, Linnea Frank, Mapitso Thaisi, 9lives, Oda Tungodden, The Clothing Bank.
“The Danish designers participate in the project because they are committed to further embed CSR policies and strategies in their companies. The goal is to make the fashion fundraiser an annual event“ says Maria Liv Claudi, founder of Nordic Designers Aid & co-founder of Crafting Hope.
**Nordic Designers Aid is a Danish, volunteer-based and not-for-profit organisation with a mission to create less waste within the Scandinavian fashion industry and equal opportunities for girls. The Danish designers donate their surplus stock and sample collections to us. We sell the clothes in South Africa through our South African sister NGO Crafting Hope. We donate all profits to civil society programs in South Africa’s Western Cape. The overall goal of these programs is to uplift girls out of poverty and to empower them to reach their full potential
